drawing and color study in progress

Here is the current painting of Filip I am working on. I've attached my finished block in, then showing my transfer and one day color study process. Unfortunately I only get 8 days for the final painting, so I will be doing only the portrait for the final painting instead of the whole torso. I will update again soon on the progress of the final piece.

Sarah Lamb Three day workshop

This is Sarah Lamb's set up during the workshop. She did a great painting of peaches and milk.
Check out her work at http://www.sarahlamb.net/

I had a great time making a quick little still-life for Sarah Lamb's workshop last week. She's a great painter who came into New York to teach at GCA even thou she is 7+ months pregnant. Here is my painting of plums and white flowers.

the League's New Book: Classical Life Drawing Studio

I have two of my drawings published in the League's New Book: Classical Life Drawing Studio
check it out:

Classical Life Drawing Studio, a new book from Sterling Publishing and The Art Students League, distills the spirit of the League’s atelier classes—the people, the methods, the art—into a fully illustrated, 220-page celebration of classical drawing.

The book is available now at the League store or through a special League site at BarnesandNoble.com.

Classical Life Drawing Studio is a multifaceted learning tool for any artist. It will help artists improve their drawing by deepening their appreciation for the figure and by broadening their understanding of classical drawing’s role in the creation of art from antiquity through today. The full-page reproductions of contemporary and early 20th-century drawings are compelling works for students to make studies of.

200 Drawings; Reflections from 16 Instructors
Classical Life Drawing Studio includes a foreword by renowned American artist and former League instructor Will Barnet, and an introductory essay by League instructor editor James Lancel McElhinney. Sixteen contemporary League instructors (alphabetically from Camhy to Vavagiakis) explain what they value in their art and teaching. They offer their insights on drawings from the League’s permanent collection and share what they learned from their teachers.

“Drawing Studio” features 200 high-quality, full-color reproductions. There are more than 100 contemporary drawings and paintings from the League’s instructors and their students. The book’s “Gallery of Classical Drawing from the Collection of the Art Students League of New York” showcases 80 full-page reproductions, including many from the popular 2009 Drawing Lessons exhibition at the League.

You can see samples images from the book and lists of contributing instructors students works at http://www.theartstudentsleague.org/classical_drawing_book.html .

Purchase the book at the League store or from the League's discount portal BarnesandNoble.com.
