GENSLER ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF THE INSTITUTE OF
CLASSICAL ARCHITECTURE & ART EXHIBIT
Exhibition to be on display from July through September 2011
NEW YORK CITY, July 6th, 2011- Gensler, the global architecture, design,
planning and consulting firm, announces today that it has partnered with the
Institute of Classical Architecture & Art (ICAA) for the newest in-office
exhibition. The exhibit, The Classical Ideal, is curated by ICAA Fellows Briana
Miller, Steve Bass, and Andy Taylor, and will be on display at Gensler in New
York through September this year. It is viewable by appointment.
“Gensler's art program and educational platform is built on establishing a
diverse appreciation of the arts. We learn from both contemporary ideas and
historical influences. Classical architecture reminds us of the rigor of our
profession and the role it has played in the foundation of culture and
design. We are pleased to house the current exhibit and support the ICAA's
mission,” shares Gensler Principal and ICAA Advisor Tom Vecchione.
The Classical Ideal exhibition features a myriad of drawings, paintings,
renderings, plaster casts, sculpture and prints. The exhibit’s pieces on display
celebrate both the history and the future of classicism as a living language
for artistic expression. From the 17th century until the early 20th century,
artists and architects received rigorous classical training at the École des
Beaux-Arts and worked collaboratively to create some of the most well
known buildings and notable works of art. Today, they continue to practice
and teach in this tradition throughout the world. The exhibition presents a
sampling of student, instructor, and practitioner work, as well as pedagogical
pieces from the ICAA and its fine art and design branches, the Grand Central
Academy of Art and the Beaux-Arts Atelier, respectively.
“The ICAA is delighted to showcase these works at the Gensler office, and for
this chance to tell the story of contemporary classicism and its practice in
America today. We believe that sustaining the lessons of the past, and
drawing from cultural memory as parts of a modern architectural toolbox, are
worthy missions. This exhibit encourages us to that educational end,” says
Institute president, Paul Gunther.

The Institute of Classical Architecture & Art announces a one-year, intensive program in the study of architectural design following the method of the École des Beaux-Arts. The program is divided into 5 six-week terms, and a two-week travel term in Rome.
